Have you ever had a family fun night, and your little one has a meltdown because they are having problems holding all of the cards?  It kills the fun quick!  Years ago, this simple DIY project saved our family fun nights.

This simple card holder allows your little one to join in a family game night without having to show their hand. With extra wood left over from another project, we created a simple card holder that made family fun night much more enjoyable.  It is easy to make and easy to use.  No need to stain it or paint it, unless you want to of course.

What you need:

14 x 1 ½ x 3/4 inch (minimum 3/4 inch height required)
Skill Saw
Measuring tape
Pencil
Sandpaper

What to do:

1. Cut wood to the desired length (if necessary). The one shown in the picture is 14 inches long.  We have a shorter one as well, but this one is handier for more cards.
2. Measure and mark the card slot line. We have ours off center.
3. Set the skill saw to cut a 1/2 inch deep card slot and cut the card slot.
4. Use sandpaper to smooth out all edges.
5. Have fun at your next family fun night!

We made a few of these and keep them in our camping supplies and at home.  As the kids grew, and the games got older, the cardholder still came in handy.  Our youngest has graduated to holding the cards herself for regular card games, but she still uses it for games like Canasta where the cards can multiply quickly.  I’m personally not thrilled that she now beats her parents at Canasta, but hey it’s a great night reconnecting with the family!
